USA TODAY named its Restaurants of the Year. This Austin favorite made the list.

Mum Foods Smokehouse & Delicatessen in Austin made USA TODAY’s list of best restaurants in the country.  

The USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year 2024 list, released today, features 47 restaurants from fine-dining establishments to counter-service seafood shacks.

"It’s a great honor to be recognized for our efforts. Anytime there is meaningful achievement, there are a many individuals whose hard work, dedication, and passion made it possible," said owner Geoff Ellis, who opened the restaurant in December 2022. "They are too many to name here, but they certainly do deserve all the credit."

USA TODAY Network food journalists from across the country pooled their expertise to select the list, which includes the places they know, love and recommend.

Mum Foods was chosen because of the way it blends elements of a traditional Jewish deli (the corned beef and pastrami are the best in town) with the traditions of Central Texas barbecue. Everything from the bread to the sides is made from scratch, and you can taste the time and commitment.
